Fingerprint Project

A couple weeks ago in LA class, we did a finger print project where we found out what kind of fingerprint we had and put our fingerprint on a note card. Here are some cool facts about fingerprints.

1) The scientific name for fingerprints is ‘dermatoglyph’.

2) There are three different types of fingerprint patterns.

3) Koalas have them too!

4) Identical twins have different fingerprints.

5) Some people are born without fingerprints.

6) Removing your fingerprints is very difficult.

7) Ancient fingerprints have been preserved for thousands of years.

8) Fingerprints are formed in the womb.

9) Fingerprints don’t change with age.

10) Your fingerprints are unique.  Nobody has the same fingerprint as you.

we got our fingerprints by covering our finger in graphite, and then taking a piece of tape and pushing it against our finger.

Book Art Project

A while ago in language arts class, language arts turned into art when artist Peg Gignoux came to our LA class and worked with us on making collage books based on an earlier project we did about a perfect world (I have a blog post about that.) This arts project a couple of months and was very fun. The collage books had our essay about a perfect world in them and we described what our perfect world would look like through the books. We used leaves and ink to get an outline and detail of the leaves on pieces of paper and cut and glued them on our book to make a natural art.

Here are some pictures of my book:

War Thunder

You probably already heard me talk about it, but I’ve got some updates regarding war thunder. If you haven’t seen my other post about the game, please go check that out before reading this. I recently linked an email for my Xbox account so now I can share my progress between my Xbox and my PC which is very nice because when I go to a sleepover, I bring my Xbox which is much much smaller than my computer (I have a desktop PC). On that account I recently got a battle rating 2.7 aircraft (the F4F–3) so I am catching up to my PC old PC account.

My Story Project

In the LA class, we read a book, called The Last Cuentista. In this book, the main character thinks that it is very important to keep stories. In LA class, we wrote a story down that was important to us and made a project off of it. Here is my story:

When my great uncle was a kid, he wanted to be an inventor. One day he was trying to build a rocket using match heads. On this specific day, he had one of his friends and partners that also liked to invent.  His name was Hubka. While working on the rocket, a screw driver made a spark and lit the matches on fire. This caused a big fiery explosión which injured both of them and frightened my great uncle John’s mom who was extremely mad at him for injuring himself and his friend. I’m not sure if he continued tinkering like that, but that was a very scary experience.

NC Chamber Theater Visits DA

A while ago, the NC chamber theater visited DA I’m going to talk about with their performances on the short story, called the monkeys paw. In the monkeys paw, one of the characters gets a monkeys paw that will bring you three wishes but when you wish it will also take something from you, but you do get what you wish for. I think that they did a good job performing this short story and others and it was very cool to have a professional theater group come and perform at our school. It was also their last show of the season so it was a big deal for the actors

Terry Virts Visits DA!

A couple months ago, Colonel Virts came and visited DA. This was a cool experience because if you don’t know who this is he was a commander on the ISS and had several space shuttle missions. He is also an author and was a test pilot and fighter pilot. He wrote a book called The Astronaut’s Guide to Leaving the Planet and we all got a signed copy if we ordered it!

Terry Virts was born in Baltimore, Maryland in 1967. United States, Air Force Academy, and flied F-16. He was chosen  to go to space in the year 2000.

The Stock Market

In LA class, we have invested fake money in the stock market. We could only invest in US stocks and we had 20,000 fake USD. We tracked our gains and losses using a Google spreadsheet and some code. I invested in 3 stocks. CRSPR, NVDA, and BLU. So far, I have made about 3,524$. I chose these stocks because I read articles about them. I think that these companies will do well. We did this because we are reading The Westing Game by Ellen Raskin. In this book one of the main characters, Turtle Wexler, thinks that the way to win the game is to invest in the stock market. This is my company logo:

Field trip!

A little while ago, I went  to the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences in Raleigh with my class.

Basically a field trip.

I enjoyed this because it was a break from regular class work and I got to be with friends.

At the museum we did Basically everything there but we had to rush to do some of the top areas and we were also going to look at some monuments but we ran out of time. To get there it was about a 30 minute bus ride.
